SPORTS ACADEMY UPM AT A GLANCE

Universiti Putra Malaysia Sports Academy was established January 1st 2004. The establishment of the academy was based on the premise that, UPM possesses the expertise and resources that can contribute towards the development of sport using scientific approach. Consistent with the progress of high performance sports, the Sport Academy aims to create a paradigm shift in this country’s sports by creating a niche in the latest application of sport technology.
The vision of the sports academy is to be internationally recognized as a well-equipped resource center in all matters pertaining to sport excellence. This vision is consistent with the university’s objective of transforming UPM as an established research institution in all forms of knowledge enrichment.
To realize this vision, the main mission of the Sports academy is to enhance the standard of sports through the use of scientific methodology in high performance sports. This mission shall be the main focus of all activities at the academy. The establishment of the two laboratories at the academy is the key to the achievement of this vision and mission. These laboratories are the Physical performance and Skills laboratory and Sports Industry development laboratory.
The activities of each laboratory has a different focus and are specialized towards a specific aspect of sport. The focus of the Physical performance and Skills laboratory is to provide expert services in all aspects of testing, measurement and evaluation of sport performance and conducting sport science research while the objective of the sports Industry development laboratory is to provide professional sport management training and the establishment of a sport archive.
The establishment of the UPM’s sports academy is based on the generation of knowledge through scientific methodology and the latest application of technology. All programs to be conducted at the academy have the specific purpose of enriching existing knowledge regarding sport excellence in this country. The support from all parties involved with the establishment of the academy is required in order to achieve the vision of the academy in the near future.
